It really depends. Sometimes the stable branch doesn't update for 3 months. Sometimes it's a month or so. It's almost always wiped when there is a new update, so it would be reasonable to expect .60 to be wiped when .61 releases. I really wouldn't worry that much about your gear though, it's meaningless in the long run.

Bohemia only owns the Official servers, so they control when they wipe it and not. They have absolutely no control or say over player run dedicated servers that are on the community server lists. Private non hive DayZ severs will be a fresh character each time as since its not hive only the server you played on will have your character file. The same will be true with Livonia. Public Hive = Shared Character.
