A Fury will do considerably more damage when played well and can do a decent amount of damage while still healing since we get a buff that procs damage on our beneficial spells. A Fury is more like a Sorceror than a melee. I've tried melee specs for laughs, but it just doesn't hold a candle to spell DPS.

I'm going to leave innate racials out of it. It's personal preference about what's most important to you. A fury is a healer and dps is done with magic spells. High Elf and Erudite have the priest/mage racial trees. Dwarf, Halfling, Wood Elfs and quite a few others have priest trees.
