However, I am only able to load (4) 2 3/4" OO buckshells in the tube and (1) in the chamber for a total of 5 shells. When loading the 5th shell in the magazine tube, it will only go about 3/4 with moderate force. The Mossberg 500 has a unique shell lifter. This open bottom design allows the lifter to tuck up and around the bolt when the action is closed. This allows the easy loading of shells without pushing the lifter out of the way and it also allows the shooter to use new mini-shells with a small adapter.
