Disconnect the a/c leads (yellow and brown) at the rectifier and connect the meter, set to read a/c volts. Check the a/c volts at idle and at 3,000 rpm. Turn the switch to headlights on and re-check the readings. If you don't get a decent reading, unplug the wires at the rear motor mount location and re-test them there.
